Well first I have some pics of Titus for you! He is standing up, leaning against the wall here!
He was sitting under the dining table on top of our laptop case and I tried to get a pic of it and he just came for the camera!
So Tom and our friend Mike Tuinstra went up to Lolo Pass to attempt their first ever snow cave. This was an adventure that Tom originally thought of doing with the senior guys at youth group but they decided they would just try it out on their own to see how it goes first and maybe next year they can do it with students. Mike also volunteers with the youth and he and Tom play basketball on Saturday mornings at church too. Lolo Pass is about 5,800 ft. at elevation so it has MUCH more snow up there than we have down here in Missoula as you will see. Their snow cave was about 500 ft. above that elevation. They snow shooed in to find a place and began their 3 1/2 to 4 hr. job of digging the cave in at least 10 ft. of snow up there! They finished just about 45 minutes shy of dark to enjoy their dinner. They came out this morning after their breakfast and made it home in time for us to enjoy church together.
Mike with their packs before they start their 30 minute journey in.
The Lodge up at Lolo Pass, look at that snow on the roof!
The beginning of the dig of the doorway to the cave! The notch is actually the floor level of the cave, so the cave is basically above Mikes head and there was still 2 1/2 ft. of snow for a roof.
Lunchtime!
A good start on the snow cave! This is a picture from the notch!
Dinner! Dehydrated, mmmmmm!
In the man cave! Tom said they would have had room for 1 more person!
Tom sitting up in the cave, he said they stayed pretty warm although they could have blocked off the door hole. They also had two vent holes in the roof for more circulation of air.
